See What Goes On Behind The Scenes With Infinity Edge Pool Landscaping (Adelaide).
Elevated views, an infinity edge swimming pool, massive excavation, retaining walls, hardwood timber steps and landscaping were all elements that went into this project located within one of Adelaide’s eastern suburbs at Glen Osmond.
Changes to the home and outside areas had been completed in stages, with the latest landscaping work focused on the rear.
Initially, there was no access to the rear of the home and the severe slope was overgrown with weeds and conifers that had outgrown their position.
To start working on this pool landscaping project, all vegetation had to be cleared, with the area where the hardwood timber steps would be built, excavated with a rock breaker.
Walls either side of tiled spillway behind the pool were rendered with ‘Dulux Acratex’ acrylic render before being painted with ‘Dulux Acrashield’ paint.
Garden beds at bottom of walls either side of spillway were waterproofed inside, then capped on top with fibre cement sheet to stop water causing damage to walls.
The pond at the base of spillway for the infinity edge pool was waterproofed and a drainage pipe from the pond was run underground down to street.
Tiles were laid inside the spillway, grouted and sealed.
At the base, by the road the feature retaining walls were constructed with ‘Besser Blocks’, laid over a concrete footing with reinforcement and starter bars then core filled with concrete. The blocks were waterproofed on all sides, completed with gravel drainage behind walls and agricultural drain pipe to the street.
Fibre cement sheet was then cut to size and glued to the front and top of the block wall, which was then painted. Joints between the sheets were filled with ‘Sikaflex’ (11FC Polyurethane coloured joint sealant).
As for the garden, after planting out as per the plan and irrigated with Turbo plus 4 Litre p/hr drippers, the area was mulched with ‘Jeffries Forever Black’ to make the plants ‘pop’.
The drippers, attached to 4mm poly pipe were attached to 19mm poly pipe running back to a non-return valve, flow limiter then solenoid boxed in the ground. Cabling for controlling the solenoid ran back to a Bluetooth irrigation controller.
Low voltage up lighting to the walls and feature plants controlled by Bluetooth was installed and set up.
To create the entrance and door at the top of the hardwood timber stairs for this pool landscaping project, the brickwork had to be cut, filled in and rendered.
Either side of the steps were waterproofed to enable planting to edges.
Tip For Long Lasting Plants
Though they’ll take 2-3 seasons to mature and show off their colour, young plants are always best to plant because they will develop a stronger root system than planting more established plants.
Here’s the list of plants included. Although it doesn’t look like it from a far, now, over 200 plants were planted for this pool landscaping project.
