Backyard & Front Garden Landscaping (Victor Harbor).
Apart from a row of Agapanthus along the front fence, a few Bird Of Paradise in the corner and grass that had seen better days, there was not much else in the way of a front garden.
At the rear of this Victor Harbor property was a large expanse of Buffalo Grass, that had again seen better days with a row of plants that weren’t thriving at all.
It was time for a complete backyard & front garden landscaping makeover. After landscape designers had produced hardscape plans outlining all the work the project called for it was time to physically complete the garden renovation.
Hand Made Gardens, licensed landscapers with over 35 years experience landscaping Adelaide southern suburbs were chosen to perform the makeover transformation. Read on to see what construction work was completed to both gardens.
Front Garden Landscaping Works
Before any new work could commence, the front mesh fence, all the plants, the lawn and the two concrete strips serving as the driveway had to be dug out and removed.
Good preparation is the key to a good and long lasting landscaping project, especially with regards to paving, which was to be laid in-front of the house and for ensuring new plants and the lawn have the best start in life.
For the pavers, after excavation, a 75mm compacted rubble base was constructed. To prepare the soil for rolling out the lawn and garden bed areas, 100mm of washed sand and 50mm of compost was dug into the earth.
As an attractive border and to make for an ideal mowing edge, clay bricks (Lassiter’s Gold) to match in with the house colour were laid on a concrete base. Contrasting ‘Grey Basalt’ stone pavers, picking up the colour of the roof tiles and retaining walls of the garden bed to the front porch were laid on a compacted sand base in-front of the house and also along the side of the house.
Great looking, hard wearing and drought tolerant ‘Male Sterile Kikuyu’ was laid down as the lawn.
To ensure the natural grass received the right amount of water, when it was needed, and so no one had to remember, an automatic irrigation system was installed. For longevity and reliability, Hunter Pro-Spray pop up sprinkler heads were used controlled by solenoids and hard-wired controller, also by Hunter.
Lastly, to complete the front garden landscaping project, the plants selected were planted out.
Hunter 4L p/hr drippers were installed for each plant and a second line was connected to the irrigation system. To reduce evaporation the areas were covered with a quality organic mulch.
‘Forever Black’ was chosen to make the plants pop and because it keeps its colour for years, as opposed to most of the cheap bark mulches sold turning grey after the first year.
As you can see, the work licensed landscapers from Hand Made Gardens completed in accordance with the plan made for a very dramatic front garden makeover.
Backyard Landscaping Works
The back garden was prepared in the same manner as the front, with the only difference being everything was on a much larger scale. Instead of having a rectangular border equal distance off the fence all the way round, which would look very harsh, the experienced landscape designers used curves to harmonise with the natural garden style and plant selection. A mixture of foliage colour and shape, size and flower colours made for a stunning outlook from under the houses rear verandah.
A couple of features included a bird bath and area at the rear of the back garden for a wooden bench seat to allow relaxing and admiring the lovely garden.
To keep young children and pets safe a Colourbond fence with two open swing gates were added level with the rear of the house.
The new backyard garden makeover was stunning with the Victor Harbor clients truly appreciative of the attention to detail and professionalism all the landscapers from Hand Made Gardens displayed.
Even though the team have been landscaping Adelaide south for over 35 years, they never get tired of hearing how much their hard work means and how it impacts peoples lifestyle for the better.
