Garden Landscaping With Sandstone Retaining Wall Feature To Willunga Winery.
The owners of a beautiful winery located at Willunga South were after giving their front garden a complete makeover.
The brief was to replace the paving under their home’s verandah that looked out over the vista of grape vines. As the house was elevated, the clients wanted a wide set of steps that would create a majestic entrance and egress to the verandah with a garden feature showcasing an existing Weeping Mulbury and lawn to the large area before the rows of vines began.
The owners of the winery wanted to plant out the garden themselves, but wanted the base preparation work to the garden beds completed along with all irrigation trenching and drip line installation.
The garden landscaping construction work was substantial and required landscape designers to produce a hardscape plan to detail the layout, concrete footings, retaining walls, paving and steps.
As landscapers with extensive experience landscaping Adelaide Southern suburbs, Hand Made Gardens were chosen to complete the garden makeover.
Existing pavers were lifted under the verandah and all vegetation was removed with excavation of the area required to get the correct levels. Stormwater trenches were dug and pipes laid to take water away from the verandah out to the vines.
A base of 75mm compacted rubble was prepared to lay 400mm x 400mm Coastal pavers under the verandah. As the area was full of highly reactive Bay of Biscay soil, 100mm cement treated rubble was placed over Geofabric to minimise the movement and reduce cracking of the mortar joints to all the wet laid sandstone paving areas. Geofabric is used to prevent the rubble from sinking in to the soil.
Basket Range sandstone was dry-stacked on the concrete footings for the circular garden feature retaining wall and was waterproofed with a membrane to prevent water coming out through the sides. The path from the steps leading out to and surrounding the Weeping Mulbury was again paved using sandstone on a mortar base and jointed with colour matching cement.
One of the innovative low maintenance landscaping ideas incorporated into the project was to have the TifTuf Bermuda Couch grass mowed with a Stihl imow.
Robotic mowers have come a long way in recent years and takeaway the need to mow natural turf yourself.

When Garden Landscaping Adelaide Front Or Backyards Consider These Ideas
Start with a plan. Professional landscape designers are worth their weight in gold when it comes to coming up with a landscape design that includes all the garden features you’re after, taking your budget into consideration.
When landscaping Adelaide gardens consider using native plants that are able to handle the hot Summer Sun and heat. If you’re after low maintenance, a native garden design with drought tolerant lawn set up with an automatic irrigation system will reduce the time you need to work on the garden, allowing you to spend more time enjoying it.
Robotic Mowers are also worth considering whether you have a small backyard or much larger lawn area.
