Complete Landscaping Back Garden Makeover For Glenelg Property.
Simple but elegant, modern and low maintenance, was the brief by a couple from Adelaide’s western suburb of Glenelg. Privacy was a very important aspect to the clients and they wanted something better to look at than an old steel panel fence. Even though the area was quite small, being a courtyard, every element of the landscaping became a garden feature in its own right.
One of Adelaide’s foremost landscape designers, Living Pictures By Tony Stanton drew up both hardscape and softscape plans to show what could be achieved within their budget. Once approved, the plans were handed across to the landscapers from Hand Made Gardens to complete the landscaping for this back garden makeover.
The main focal point was to be a metal fountain on a plinth, hidden by pebbles inside the pond providing not only a stunning garden feature but also adding the tranquil sound of water splashing.
It did, and it was, but the magnificent Murraya Paniculata (Orange Jessamine) covering the fence with Buxus Koreeana (Korean Box) placed in front with 450mm planter box walls made from rendered Hebel panels nearly stole the show.
That was until a stylish metal gate hinged either side by two tall rendered light weight walls was hung next to the fountain.
400mm square slate pavers surrounded by 100mm square Granite setts were laid to form a path from the house to the gate separated by drought tolerant and low maintenance Male Sterile Kikuyu lawn.
To provide a place to sit and relax, able to enjoy all this magnificent back garden makeover has to offer, a seat made with Merbau was erected opposite the fountain with a convenient storage unit underneath.
Garden lighting was included to be able to take advantage of the space at night too.

Landscaping Ideas
When looking at small or courtyard garden makeovers, you’re not limited by the size, just your imagination.
This is where a professional landscape design plays such an important part, combined with skilled landscapers to produce such an excellent final result.
Light weight Hebel panels or polystyrene panels can be rendered and painted to create a clean modern look. Charcoal colours, Granite, Slate and steel add a strong contrast to green foliage and lawn, making the plants ‘pop’ out at you.
When landscaping Adelaide back gardens, thinking about the aesthetics is important, but focus more on the garden features and how you can enjoy being immersed within your private sanctuary. Outdoor entertaining with friends or family can be made even more memorable with areas to sit and relax or eat!
